Novo Evaluates Implant

Vivani Medical (VANI) said Tuesday that Novo Nordisk (NVO) will conduct an internal evaluation of NPM‑139, Vivani's semaglutide drug implant intended for chronic weight management, under a new agreement. The company said the agreement does not include exclusivity provisions for NPM‑139 or its proprietary NanoPortal technology. Additionally, Vivani said it expects to begin a phase 1 first‑in‑human study evaluating the NPM‑139 semaglutide implant, with Novo Nordisk's Wegovy injections as an active comparator, in mid‑2026. The company said that the trial will evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetics, and tolerability of NPM‑139 to support a potential phase 2 dose‑ranging study.
