Strategic Operations

On the operational front, Kroger completed 12 major store projects and repurchased roughly $1.2 billion of stock under a $2 billion authorization, signalling confidence in its capital allocation. The company also continued to invest in its private‑label portfolio, where consumer spending rose by $420 million last year. To counter rising prices, Kroger rolled out price cuts on thousands of items and refreshed its loyalty‑rewards program. These moves were part of a broader strategy to capture value‑seeking shoppers, especially as the retailer reported a loss of 700,000 lower‑income households whose CPG spending fell 5.2 % year over year, resulting in over $12 billion of CPG spend migrating to Amazon, Walmart, and Costco.
