Supply Chain Concerns

Rare earth elements are a group of 17 metallic elements essential for modern technology, including electronics, renewable‑energy systems, and advanced ceramics. The most commonly used rare earths are neodymium (Nd), dysprosium (Dy), praseodymium (Pr), cerium (Ce), lanthanum (La), samarium (Sm), europium (Eu), yttrium (Yt), terbium (Tb), thulium (Tm), and lutetium (Lu). Their demand has risen due to their widespread use in smartphones, laptops, wind turbines, solar panels, magnets, catalysts and glass. China dominates global supply, raising concerns over supply‑chain security. In response, some countries are pursuing alternative sources, including recycling technologies and new mining projects.
